This year, create a special keepsake together with your child by crafting a beautiful Handprint Canvas. It’s a simple yet meaningful project that Mom will cherish for years to come. Prepare Your Workspace:
Lay down a protective covering on your workspace and put on aprons or old shirts to protect clothing from paint.
Choose Paint Colors:
Select Mom’s favorite colors for the handprints/footprints. Pour a small amount of each paint onto a paper plate or palette.
Paint Handprints:
Have your child dip their hand or foot into one color of paint, or use a paint brush or sponge ( I prefer sponge, it gets an even coating and not too much paint) ensuring their entire hand or foot is coated but not overly saturated. Help them press their hand firmly onto the canvas to create a handprint. Repeat this step with different colors to create a colorful array of handprints across the canvas.
We opted for footprints this time, so I could turn them into birds for Gigi and Nana!
Add Personal Touches:
Once the handprints are dry, I use paint markers to add details to make the prints look like little birds. You can also encourage your child to write their name, draw hearts, or add special designs to personalize the canvas for Mom.
Clean Up:
Use baby wipes or a damp cloth to clean paint off little hands and fingers. Allow the paint on the canvas to dry completely before proceeding to the next step.
Optional Embellishments:
If desired, add extra flair to the canvas by embellishing it with stickers, sequins, glitter, or any other decorative elements that Mom loves.
Wrap and Present:
Once the canvas is dry and decorated to perfection, wrap it up in colorful paper or place it in a gift bag with a handwritten card from your child. Present it to Mom on Mother’s Day with a big hug and a smile!
SHOW ALL THE MOMS, GIGIS, AND NANAS HOW MUCH YOU LOVE THEM!
Creating a Handprint Canvas is not only a fun and creative activity for you and your child but also a beautiful way to show Mom how much she’s loved and appreciated. This Mother’s Day, give the gift of memories and love with this heartfelt DIY craft.
Happy Mother’s Day to all the wonderful local mamas out there!
