Meet A Mom: Chelsea Robbins McGhinnis | Kingwood Moms

What is your name and company?
My name is Chelsea Robbins McGhinnis and I co-own Robbins Chevrolet and Robbins Nissan with my dad and brother. We’ve been in business since 1928 and my brother and I are 4th gen owners.

Where are you from originally and how long have you lived in Kingwood?
I grew up in Kingwood and graduated from KHS. I moved for college and grad school but Kingwood has always been home base since my parents still live in the area. My husband (who is from Alabama) and I moved back to the area officially in 2014.

Child(ren) and Age(s)?
Haley is 4 and Jacob is 3. They’re 18 months apart. My first child is a Duck Tolling Retriever named Gunner and he is currently the best listener of the 3.

One thing people would be surprised to know about you. Jacob was in a real big hurry and we didn’t quite make it…He was born in our garage.

What is your go-to activity for yourself for pampering or for fun?
Gosh probably the thing I do most is watch a mindless Chick Flick on Netflix or read a book that’s the equivalent. I’m definitely working on making more time for myself right now as I’m having a bit of trouble between managing a business, a house, 2 kids, and a dog. I need to take better care of me!

Funniest shortcut/routine for helping you through parenthood? Things are easier when you know where to go to find what you’re looking for. Use a label maker and make sure everyone knows where things go!

Are you involved in a business venture, a local organization, a creative endeavor, or in the
corporate world? Please share!
When I am not working at our dealerships, we support Humble ISD in various ways including presenting sponsor of the Humble Rodeo and grand prize for HISD’s Teacher of the Year. We also support the Rotary Club of Humble and various other organizations in the area such as Jesse Jones Park. My grandfather was very big into the local community and supporting the community that supports us is one of our core values as a company.

How has this community been instrumental in getting you to where you are now? I received the best education that allowed me to be successful through the completion of a graduate degree. I was so supported by my parents, coaches and teachers growing up and am so thankful this community was my foundation. I appreciate so much that I get to raise my family here now doing many of the same things I did growing up.

What is the best advice for juggling mommyhood and running a business (or volunteering,
working, etc)? Make lists. Clean as you go. Do laundry as soon as you have a load (no I don’t sort colors but I do sort towels)

What would you tell the old “You” before you had kids? Enjoy not having to worry about feeding anyone but yourself!

What is your proudest mommy moment?
Too many to count. Having these little people around is just an abundance of proud moments and laughing at them because they’re just so funny.

Greatest gift about being a mom?
Some days are hard. Really hard. And I’m so tired. But at the end of the day, I am so thankful for these smiling faces and a supportive husband and partner, and the life we have together.

Best mom hack that makes momming easier?
Routine. We try to keep our days consistent. It’s better for the babies and better for us as working parents.

What’s your favorite part about what you do?
The last year we’ve focused a lot on process improvement and technology adoption and I’ve really enjoyed seeing our team members shine and our customer experience improve. It’s definitely always a work in progress! My second favorite part is the opportunity our company provides for us to be involved in the community.

What is your favorite thing to do in the HKA area?
My husband and I really love to go to The Cove when we get a minute away – it’s a craft beer and wine bar near Forest Cove. The babies love riding in the bike trailer to the park (but they’re getting a little heavy!). This summer my husband and I have taken up pickle ball.
