Meet A Mom: Emily Reynolds- Teach Kingwood | Kingwood Moms

What is your name and company?
Emily Reynolds- Teach Kingwood

Where are you from originally and how long have you lived in Kingwood?
I grew up in Virginia and Southern California. Spent 4 years in Kansas at KU (Rock Chalk!) I came to Houston for grad school in 2003 and soon met my husband in the heights. We moved up to Kingwood to be closer to his family and have been here for 2 years now.

Child(ren) and Age(s)?
Our sweet little boy Parker who just turned 1.

One thing people would be surprised to know about you…
I went skydiving when I was in college. Which is surprising considering how cautious I am now!

What is your go-to activity for yourself for pampering or for fun?
I love reading a good book by the pool!

Funniest shortcut/routine for helping you through parenthood?
I may not have found a short cut or routine, but I have learned to just laugh at things when they do not go exactly as planned.

Are you involved in a business venture, a local organization, a creative endeavor, or in the
corporate world? Please share!
I was a Kindergarten and First-grade teacher before becoming a full-time mom! I missed being in the classroom and was looking for a way to continue teaching while staying home with my son, so I created Teach Kingwood. I saw a need in the community for families that were not ready to send their children back to school because of the COVID pandemic but wanted them to have some social interactions and structure. Teach Kingwood is going to allow me to create personal relationships with young elementary students while helping them with their core academics.

How has this community been instrumental in getting you to where you are now?
Even though I only taught at Shadow Forest for one year, I was able to create positive, lasting relationships with the teachers, parents, and my students. Those relationships showed me what a strong and close-knit community Kingwood is.

What is the best advice for juggling mommyhood and running a business (or volunteering, working, etc)?
Having a supportive husband and family learning to prioritize during nap times! What can only be done while my baby is sleeping, and what can he “help” you do while he is awake.

What would you tell the old “You” before you had kids?
It is ok to binge-watch Netflix all day and do nothing because you likely won’t get that opportunity again.

What is your proudest mommy moment?
Becoming a mom!

Greatest gift about being a mom?
The endless amount of love, hugs, and grace that is given daily.

Best mom hack that makes momming easier?
Having planned days to do the laundry, clean, and grocery shop.

What’s your favorite part about what you do?
Making lasting relationships with kids and watching them grow academically.

What is your favorite thing to do in the HKA area?
I love taking my son and dog on walks on the many miles of the greenbelt.
