Hurricane Harvey Recovery | Kingwood Moms

I am hesitant to post this. It is hard to write about this. Hurricane Harvey was devastating to our community. It destroyed everything in its path. The pictures don’t even do justice. I am still in shock at what happened and when I watch this video it gives me chills. But something that will forever be in my mind is the LOVE and community that I saw when neighbors were in need. People helping people they didn’t even know when they were trapped in their houses. Strangers using their own boats to go help first responders rescue people stuck in their houses.

I remember seeing neighbors trying to keep kids entertained or comfortable in conditions like this. Some people are still recovering, some are still in hotels or rental houses.  Kingwood High School was flooded and destroyed. It had to be closed for most of last year to be rebuilt. The Kingwood High students had to travel to Summer Creek High for the remainder of the year.
There were many many stores that had to be rebuilt. Some couldn’t come back from the devastation and sadly had to close their doors. And we miss those businesses so much. They were apart of the community for years and years.
