Meet A Mom: Rachel Griffin: Organized Creative Design | Kingwood Moms

Where are you from originally and how long have you lived in Kingwood?
I was born in Dallas, Tx. but was raised here in Kingwood.  I’ve been a resident of Kingwood since I was a little girl. I went to elementary school at Elm Grove. I attended Kingwood Middle school where I was a cheerleader and graduated from Kingwood High school in 2004.

I earned a scholarship to go to college which I used at Lonestar College (Kingwood College back then) and received an associate’s degree in the arts. While working full time I attended the University of Houston and within a few shorts years I was graduating with a bachelor’s degree in psychology with an emphasis on sociological psychology.

Child(ren) and Age(s)?
We have been blessed with two MIRACLE babies and 3 ANGEL babies.

Katie Beth is 4
Jon Davis is 3

One thing people would be surprised to know about you…
I am a thrill seeker!!! Ive been skydiving for my birthday, I*ve seen Aspen, Colorado from a hot air balloon, I ride roller coasters like a kid, I never turn down a good parasailing over the ocean and I have done over 5 zip lining adventures throughout the world.

What is your go-to activity for yourself for pampering or for fun?
I’m all about the spa experience. I could live in a spa… who couldn*t? A long massage is my go to! Working on my feet most days and chasing after my two littles deserves a little down time.

Are you involved in a business venture, a local organization, a creative endeavor, or in the
corporate world? Please share!
I am the proud owner of Organized Creative Design. A boutique residential organizing firm specializing in designing beautifully custom organized spaces for busy families.

How has this community been instrumental in getting you to where you are now?
Kingwood has grown so much over the years. It’s always been my home but more importantly, it’s always felt like a home. Kingwood is a big place but it’s amazing when you step out to run errands and you run into your neighbor or a friend from bible study or your workout partner from the gym. It makes it feel more like a small town. That small town feel gives you the sense that your dream, whatever it is, is not too big to accomplish and the community will back you 100%. We can see that in many forms all around us each day. Harvey survivors rebuilding thier homes and businesses who are new to the area all starting fresh and making Kingwood their home, and for good reason… Kingwood is a great place to live.

What is the best advice for juggling mommyhood and running a business (or volunteering,
working, etc)?

My business wouldn’t exist if it wasn’t for my children…my whole family honestly.  They are all my inspiration,  my cheerleaders,  my shoulders to cry on, my top investors and my guiding lights. They keep pushing me when I feel like I can’t go on. They are the reason I do what I do and why I can be who I am. With that said, my kids come first. I don’t juggle because I don’t have to. I plan my week around them and O.C.D. gets put in afterwards. They love being involved in my creative processes and learning about what I do. I am proud to share it with them and teach them early life lessons.
What would you tell the old “You” before you had kids?
Rachel darling…don’t be afraid of change and embrace the unknown. The journey you are about to go on in this life is worth every minute and you are going to have more memories than you can imagine, more laughs that keep you smiling longer, more kisses than anyone could ever give you and your heart will be overjoyed with an unimaginable kind of love that only a mom can experience. Dive in girl and don’t look back.
What is your proudest mommy moment?
Goodness, how do you pick just one? I think for me some of my proudest moments are those that are normally disastrous to others. The Facebook and Instagram worthy moments are my proudest! These are rare moments that only photos can capture and make you laugh about it in 30 years. Those are the moments you look at your children and smile thanking God above for this beautiful gift and all the joy that comes with it. Only they can make you laugh at the hundreds of goldfish dumped out all over your new rug and only they can make butt paste from head to toe look so good.
What is your greatest gift about being a mom?
Having the ability to raise your children in the way of God is probably one of the greatest gifts about being a mom. You significantly impact who your children become. Each and every day they learn, they listen, they hear you and to have the honor to raise them to know Christ and love him is truly the best gift I could ever receive.

Best mom hack that makes momming easier?

Being a professional organizer I thrive on efficiency. It’s like air to me!
I double up on everything. When the kids were babies we had cars seats in both our cars and the in-laws car. We didn’t want to waste time installing/uninstalling car seats on drop off day….and in the heat no less. What a hassle! We keep extras of everything… everywhere. Pullups in the car, hairbrush, pop up potty, baby wipes, you name it we have it. We like to be prepared wherever we go and whatever we are doing.

What’s your favorite part about what you do?

I LOVE everything about what I do but I guess my favorite part is the WOW at the end of it all. I think a lot of people have the mindset they are organized already and don’t need a professional. I don’t just organize, I create a beautiful, custom organized space that works efficiently for your family. Organizing and organizing the O.C.D. way are two different things. To hear how happy my clients are at the end warms my heart and makes me so proud to have this opportunity to get to shine for them so they can be proud of their space.

What is your favorite thing to do in the HKA area?
We love living here for a variety of reasons but one of our favorite things to do is be down by the water. We love eating at the restaurants and listening to the live music in the summer. Kicking back and relaxing for a while in the summer evening is the best. Watching the kids play on the green and window shopping all make for a great family night out. So proud to have our Kings Harbor back.
